About Hangman Score

Hangman Score started as a simple question: what if the classic pencil-and-paper word game you played as a kid had a real competitive edge? The traditional game has no timer, no points system, no global ranking — it's purely local and casual. We wanted to change that.

The result is Hangman Score: a web-based Hangman game that tracks every move you make — the letters you guess, the time you take, the mistakes you make — and converts them into a points score. Your scores accumulate over time, building a total that places you on a global leaderboard visible to every player.

We launched with a carefully curated word pool of over 800 words across eleven categories, a clean dark-themed interface designed for both desktop and mobile, and Google sign-in via Clerk for instant, frictionless authentication. We're continuously expanding the word pool, adding new features, and improving the competitive experience based on player feedback.

• ✦Points-based scoring: Every win is scored based on accuracy (wrong guesses) and speed (time taken), not just whether you won or lost. The formula: 1000 − (wrong guesses × 100) − (seconds × 2), with a minimum of 100 per win.
• ✦Persistent leaderboard: Your total points accumulate across all games and rank you globally. The leaderboard also shows average points per game, rewarding consistency over volume.
• ✦11 word categories: From Animals to Technology to History, words are drawn from a broad and curated cross-domain pool, ensuring that no game feels repetitive.
• ✦Full stats tracking: Win rate, average wrong guesses, best and current streaks, total points, best single-game score — all tracked automatically for every signed-in player.
• ✦Instant Google sign-in: No username/password to remember. Sign in with your Google account in two clicks and your history is saved forever.
